Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with community service. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. In second football, he was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. The team also took home the national title twice. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned his degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service consisted of ten hours a week in volunteer work during college. Following college, he relocated in Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. After that, he began his professional career. The first position he held was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the 10 most notable young people in America. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6-2. When he was playing college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
